Brown University x UMiami Fall 2021 Environmental Disparities Research Project
ABOUT US
Who We Are
We are a group of Brown University undergraduate students in Professor Dawn King’s ENVS 0110 course, Humans, Nature, and the Environment, an introductory Environmental Studies course offered in Fall 2021. This course analyzes impacts that individuals, communities, and institutions have on the natural environment. We study possible sustainable solutions to the problems caused by these impacts and potential positive relationships these actors can have with the environment.
Humans, Nature, and the Environment is a course in Brown’s Engaged Scholars Program, meaning that an integral part of the semester is spent working on community-based projects. We are one of six groups within the class, tasked specifically on working with our community partner: The University of Miami Law School’s Center for Ethics and Public Service. We are working to help contextualize health disparities in Miami-Dade County. This website is a summary of our research into how health disparities and environmental injustices are exacerbated due to impacts of climate change. We’ve used QGIS mapping and synthesized environmental and public health data to make our findings accessible. This website is a compilation of our findings.
